I can say that most of my patient’s have had some measure of success with the Crest Whitestrips, some more than others. Our office uses the Supreme which are 4 times stronger than what you can get in the store, but the others will work as well but take more time and possibly more than one kit. The results are usually pretty quick, noticeable in the first few days, best in a week or longer.If you can, do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar, plaque, or orthodontic cement) will impede their ability to work. They will not whiten any white fillings you may have, but whiten uniformly. Also, don’t use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). You should not drink or eat anything dark for at least 1/2 hour after using the strips.
The strips/trays are your least costly whitening method as compared to custom made trays or in office whitening ($500.00+) All of the methods (strips, trays, custom trays, in office whitening) have the potential to make your teeth temporarily sensitive, but will not harm the enamel. If you get sensitive use the product every other day in conjunction with a sensitive tooth toothpaste. You might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don’t smoke. Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again.

Brush and floss regularly to reduce or prevent stains.
Step 2
Try whitening toothpastes. Though heavily advertised, these only partially whiten teeth and don’t provide a complete remedy. Make sure the toothpaste has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval and has been clinically proved to whiten teeth effectively. Very few whitening toothpastes have undergone any type of clinical trial, and ones that are too abrasive can damage teeth or make them very sensitive.

Get regular dental cleanings, which remove many food and tobacco stains. No amount of cleaning will remove the severe staining left by tetracycline or systemic disease because these pigments lie inside the tooth; you’ll have to take more aggressive measures against these.

Think about getting veneers, which are custom-made shells bonded to the teeth with resins. This procedure often requires removing a small amount of tooth structure and is the most invasive, as well as the most expensive, treatment option.

No bleaching method can permanently whiten teeth, and all require repeated treatments, especially if the factor that caused staining still exists.

All of the bleaching mechanisms described here can cause tooth sensitivity, usually temporary (lasting up to several weeks).

Never try to remove or scrape off stains with your fingernails or other sharp objects.

The ADA and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration discourage use of over-the-counter bleaching kits, which can damage your gums.

Get a ziplok bagie and put some baking soda in and keep in in the washroom. When you brush your teeth, once the toothpaste is on..dip it in the baggie and continue brushing your teeth with the baking soda on the toothbrush. And brush for a full 2 minutes. You need to remove the tough stains on your teeth and it doesnt take 15 seconds to do that.
It might burn the first time a little but thats because you removed everything possible and it wont hurt as bad the second time & so on.
