Cheap Tooth Bleaching?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

A simple google search will show that the main ingredient in tooth bleaching is some kind of peroxide, usually hydrogen peroxide.

My question is, "If you put some 3%, standard brown bottle hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy on your toothbrush to soak into the bristles, and then proceed to put on toothpaste and brush normally, and continue this program indefinitely, how long will it take to see some results?"

Thanks.

My answer is don’t do it…
Although 3% hydrogen is equal only 12% Carbamide peroxide which is weak you still don’t want it to touch your gum to much. I also don’t think you will see good result this way.

If you are trying to bleach your teeth for cheap then i suggest take advantage of one of the free whitening offers. use a product with 20%-30% Carbamide (equal 7-10% hydrogen) you will get great results and you can maintain it with good oral hygiene.
Take Advantage of one one of the free offers at the source link (you can also read more about teeth whitening) i prefer the first products cause it is a whitening tray i use it and i am very happy with the results

Good luck

What is the physiology/biology behind tooth pain/sensitivity when whitening/bleaching?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Usually, your pain mechanism is your body’s way of telling you that’s something’s wrong. Therefore, what do whitening products do to your teeth that make them hurt? Is it causing root resorption? (Despite the potassium nitrate in the whitening gel, my teeth still hurt). Thanks!

Carbamide Peroxide the active product is slowly broken down to Hydrogen Peroxide which whitens the teeth. The 16% gel whitens more slowly but causes less tooth sensitivity. The 22% gel whitens quickly but can cause temporary sensitivity to temperatures. Both the 16% and 22% gels need to be worn for about 10-14 days to achieve maximum whiteness. Hydrogen peroxide penetrates the enamel prisms of the tooth an removes biofilm this "opening of the pores" next to the pulp of the tooth causes an increase in sensitivity althoughth here has never been any long term harm to the tooth or pulp(nerve)

The ultimate whiteness will be determined by the length of time the teeth are exposed to the whitening gel and the mineral composition of the teeth. Teeth whitening is kind of like a reverse suntan. Some people get great results in only one or two days while others need more treatment time.

Teeth Whitening: How it Works and What it Costs

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

http://whitesmilepro.tk/
In the blossoming world of cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening reigns supreme. Universally valued by men and women alike, whitening (or bleaching) treatments are available to satisfy every budget, time frame and temperament.

Whether in the form of one-hour bleaching sessions at your dentists office, or home-use bleaching kits purchased at your local drugstore, teeth whitening solutions abound. Yet only 15 percent of the population has tried the cosmetic procedure, and misinformation on the subject is rife.

The long and the short of it is that teeth whitening works. Virtually everyone who opts for this cosmetic treatment will see moderate to substantial improvement in the brightness and whiteness of their smile. However, teeth whitening is not a permanent solution and requires maintenance or “touch-ups” for a prolonged effect.

Bleaching vs. Whitening
According to the FDA, the term “bleaching” is permitted to be used only when the teeth can be whitened beyond their natural color. This applies strictly to products that contain bleach — typically hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

The term “whitening,” on the other hand, refers to restoring a tooths surface color by removing dirt and debris. So any product that cleans (like a toothpaste) is considered a whitener. Of course, the term whitening sounds better than bleaching, so it is more frequently used — even when describing products that contain bleach.

Why Teeth Whitening? Examining Enamel
Most of us start out with sparkling white teeth, thanks to their porcelain-like enamel surface. Composed of microscopic crystalline rods, tooth enamel is designed to protect the teeth from the effects of chewing, gnashing, trauma and acid attacks caused by sugar. But over the years enamel is worn down, becoming more transparent and permitting the yellow color of dentin — the tooths core material — to show through.

During routine chewing, dentin remains intact while millions of micro-cracks occur in the enamel. It is these cracks, as well as the spaces between the crystalline enamel rods, that gradually fill up with stains and debris. As a result, the teeth eventually develop a dull, lackluster appearance.

Teeth whitening removes the stains and debris, leaving the enamel cracks open and exposed. Some of the cracks are quickly re-mineralized by saliva, while others are filled up again with organic debris.

Tooth Discoloration: The Two Types of Tooth Stains
There are two categories of staining as it relates to the teeth: extrinsic staining and intrinsic staining.

Extrinsic stains are those that appear on the surface of the teeth as a result of exposure to dark-colored beverages, foods and tobacco, and routine wear and tear. Superficial extrinsic stains are minor and can be removed with brushing and prophylactic dental cleaning. Stubborn extrinsic stains can be removed with more involved efforts, like teeth bleaching. Persistent extrinsic stains can penetrate into the dentin and become ingrained if they are not dealt with early.

Intrinsic stains are those that form on the interior of teeth. Intrinsic stains result from trauma, aging, exposure to minerals (like tetracycline) during tooth formation and/or excessive ingestion of fluoride. In the past, it was thought that intrinsic stains were too resistant to be corrected by bleaching. Today, cosmetic dentistry experts believe that even deep-set intrinsic stains can be removed with supervised take-home teeth whitening that is maintained over a matter of months or even a year.

Root canalled tooth – internal bleaching after 2 months?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Had a root canal done on one of my front top teeth, and had it internally bleached. It looked fine, but after a few weeks it was a couple of shades darker. Not nearly as bad as it was, though. My question is: it’s been 2 months since the bleaching ended, can I have it ‘re-bleached’, and will it make a difference if I do have it done again? Many thanks

You can get it bleached again, but the best solution will be to get the tooth restored with a crown.

Bleaching just takes care of the appearance.

It does not take away the risks of the tooth fracturing.

How to prevent tooth transparency caused by bleaching – don’t want to give up coffee!?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Veneers for teeth not possible for me. Is there a mechanical or chemical shield to prevent discoloration or a make-up type product to cover up? Or another product to whiten that doesn’t cause enamel erosion?

Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries but certain precautions have to be taken. I found the information at http://www.aches.in/toothwhitening.html

Brushing with baking soda at night then rinse with hydrogen peroxide in the morning it helps remove stains. It can cause teeth to be sesitive if you do it to often.
