Does tooth bleaching hurt? (Those kits w/molds of your own teeth, that the dentist gives you to use at home)?
When I received my kit a month ago, they told me about all sorts of awful things it might do to my teeth and/or gums… interesting that they chose to divulge this information AFTER i had paid my $500 and had the impressions taken of my teeth, blah blah blah. Anyway, so now I’ve been avoiding actually doing the bleaching, out of fear of damage/pain, and/or doing it wrong (and thus increasing damage/pain). Anyone had any problems? Also, if you did it overnight, did it cause problems like gagging or drooling?
Any tips appreciated… thanks!
I did the dentist home bleaching kit and it worked well for me. I do get teeth sensitiviy when i wear them all night. But you can also wear them for a couple hours a day if it bothers you to wear them all night.
they hurt only if your teeth are sensitive. and it isn’t all that painful kinda like if you bite into something really cold

it didn’t hurt me. I know that if you use too much gel it gets on your gums and can make them sore. You only need a litle strip. I slept in mine but put a towel down to catch any drool. Good luck!

Don’t brush before placing the bleach tray over your teeth. Your tooth brush will cause abrasions to your gums that will make the solution feel like salt poured into a wound. Bleaching too frequently will make them feel more sensitive too. Over all I think it’s pretty safe if used as directed.

If your going to keep bleaching your teeth it will damage them and they will become more sensitive in time. Go to the dentist and ask them if they do brite smile. I had it done 3 years ago and cost me £600 and they are still dead white. They put a gel on your teeth then a lazer light over them for 1 hour and after the results are amazing. The first 2 days your teeth will be a bit sensitive, but it doesnt harm them like the bleeching will its worth the money and can last upto 5 years.

They won’t harm your teeth if you don’t over do it. The average person whitens for 7-10 days, then only does it once in a while to brighten and maintain. Depending on your habits of smoking, red wines, coffee, tea, dark sodas, you may have to touch-up more or less often. DO brush before applying the gel (unlike the previous answerer said) to be sure you have a clean surface for the gel to sit against. And no, it shouldn’t hurt your gums unless you put way too much gel in the trays and let it sit against the gums for a long time. Or if your gums are inflammed for some reason. If you are the average healthy person, who brushes frequently, flosses at least a few times/week then you will be fine. Some people may develop sensitivity to cold foods/drinks while whitening, but it’s only temporary. If the solution bothers you, ask your dentist for a less potent version, (less percentage of peroxide) or only whiten every other night, or use sensitive toothpaste(Sensodyne, etc)
